First Church of Christ, Scientist (first) holds its first service.

Architect: Franklin Welch. Originally called the “Mother Church,” it is designed in the Romanesque Revival style, it is located at 210 Massachusetts Avenue. The cornerstone was laid on May 21, 1894. The building comes to be called the “chapel” when the larger “basilica” opens in 1906.*
